Drug policy
Introduction
Being under the influence of drugs can seriously impair an individual’s judgement and reactions leading to an increased risk of accidents and injuries occurring. Drug abuse problems can also have a detrimental effect on behaviour.
The aim of this policy is to ensure the safety of all players, venue staff and spectators by having clear rules in place regarding use and possession of drugs.
For the purpose of this policy, drug dependence is defined as:
"The habitual taking of drugs by a player other than drugs prescribed as medication, whereby the players ability to perform his/her duties is impaired, or he/she endangers the safety of others".
This policy is designed to comply with relevant legislation such as the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
Policy Provisions
Players may not consume unlawful drugs at a Poole & District Darts League fixture or event, prior to fixture or event where they may still be under the influence of drugs, effects which may carry over the fixture or event.
No player shall be in possession of illegal drugs at a Poole & District Darts League fixture or event.
No player, spectator or team member shall supply others with illegal drugs.
Players who are taking prescription drugs should ensure that they are aware of any side effects and should not be involved in any competition if the prescription drugs will impair their ability to play darts.
The PDDL policy involves the following approach:
Disciplinary rules, enforced through disciplinary procedures, where use of drugs (other than on prescription) affects performance or behaviour at a fixture or competition (see enforcement below)
General policy provisions
This policy applies to all members, players & Spectators.
All members will be treated consistently and fairly in line with this policy and all matters concerning drugs shall be treated as confidential.
This policy will be communicated to all members after registration and the policy will be made available online.
Enforcement
The policy on drugs will be strictly enforced.
Disciplinary action in accordance with the PDDL disciplinary procedures will be undertaken where breaches of the policy occur.
When there is reasonable belief that an individual is under the influence of drugs at a fixture or an event, they must be sent home immediately by the team captain and reported to the committee. In addition, possession of or dealing in illegal drugs will, without exception, be reported to the Police.
